Wellbeing Westmorland Activity Programmes

Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme

As from November 2025, we are a licensed provider of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. Our aim is to partner community groups and leaders across Westmorland and beyond who are already encouraging and empowering young people through their work. This can be enhanced by further exploring the potential of each young person, and celebrating their activities and skills to gain this internationally recognised award.

The scheme is aimed at young people aged between 14 and 25, and progresses through bronze, silver and gold levels, and onto becoming a young leader themselves. Employers and institutes of learning are reassured by people having undertaken this award as it can affirm resilience, resourcefulness, commitment, compassion for others, teamwork, confidence, awareness and diligence.

We invite youth leaders across the region to contact our Duke of Edinburgh manager, Deyna Hirst, initially at: events@wellbeingwestmorland.org.uk with a view to learning more and arranging a meeting.

Swimming and Walking for Refugees, Asylum Seekers and Temporary Guests for Active Lifestyles

This is a closed programme specifically for refugees, asylum seekers and temporary guests in Westmorland to support them to develop skills, abilities, language acquisition and confidence to access swimming and walking in the Westmorland area. The first activity block takes place October to December 2024, with a second block to follow in January to March 2025. We would like to introduce cycling into the second activity block.

Activities are designed for families and separately for women only. Swimming sessions are designed for new and early swimmers.
All swimming sessions will take place at Kendal Leisure Centre. Walking sessions will take place in the countryside close to Kendal and will normally use local buses to access walks.

This programme is now closed
